Reading is very important for so many reasons. Each word can improve a child's vocabulary and memory retention, among other things. Reading 1-2 times per week gives a child a vocabulary of 63,000 words by age five. Reading every day can expand a child's vocabulary to grow to almost 300,000 words by age five. Five books a day can grow that same vocabulary base to 1,483,300 words!
