Sheldon ISD joins Region 4 schools in extending school closure through Friday, April 10

March 16, 2020

Dear Sheldon ISD Families and Community Members,

Sheldon ISD Superintendent Dr. King Davis has announced that Sheldon ISD will extend the suspension of normal district operations through Friday, April 10, in an effort to support the nation’s need to flatten the curve of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This temporary closure also includes the cancellation of all district-related events such as athletics, fine arts, clubs and organizations, and all other gatherings until further notice.

The Houston area continues to see an increasing number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, and health officials indicate this number is expected to continue to increase as more testing is made available.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol; and the President has publicly shared that the community should not gather in groups larger than 10 people.

Also, earlier today, the Texas Education Agency confirmed that Texas Governor Greg Abbott has waived the STAAR testing requirements this school year.

In addition, the district will continue to provide breakfast and lunches each weekday for children ages 1-18 at Carroll Elementary, Royalwood Elementary, Sheldon Elementary, Null Middle School, and C. E. King Middle School. Breakfast will be available for pick up from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.; and lunch will be available for pick up from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please remember that students MUST be present when walking or driving up in order to receive their meals for accounting purposes.

Lastly, district administrators have been working hard to provide remote learning opportunities for our students. Tomorrow (Tuesday, March 17) expect an additional callout with more information about our remote learning plan.

As always, please email communications@sheldonisd.com if you have additional questions, comments, or concerns.

NOTICE - NEW TIMEFRAMES: District to offer both breakfast and lunch distributions to once per weekday beginning March 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Dear Sheldon ISD Community,
Due to the county’s recent “stay-home-work” safe order that went into effect on Tuesday, Sheldon ISD administrators have decided to err on the side of caution and consolidate both its breakfast and lunch distributions to once per weekday. Therefore, in a continuing effort to keep our students, staff and parents as safe as possible, beginning Thursday (March 26), both breakfast and lunches may be picked up Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for children ages 1-18 at the same five campus locations: Carroll Elementary, Royalwood Elementary, Sheldon Elementary, Null Middle School, and C. E. King Middle School.
Again, children ages 1-18 may pick up both breakfast and lunches each weekday at the following new timeframe: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Thank you – and let’s remain #SHELDONSTRONG!

Important information about coronavirus

Sheldon ISD is taking precautions to limit the effect of any future outbreaks of viruses such as flu or the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). District administration is in weekly contact with the State of Texas State Operations Center and other local health agencies to stay up to date of any developments that may impact our region.

Currently, Sheldon ISD is directing campus custodial staff to increase the disinfecting of surfaces and doorknobs. We are also wiping down the seats on buses on a scheduled basis. School nurses will continue to work with campus staff to inform and monitor the use of standard precautions such as handwashing. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.
